Antibiotics – An Era of Resistance

Antibiotics have been long used in order to treat infections, as they target microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and parasites. Antibiotics were the most effective treatment for such infections, but what happens when the bacteria become ‘immune’ to the antibiotics? This new threat is a very real one, with strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria widespread, and is fast evolving into one with consequences to throw immunological advances decades back to square one in many cases.
