The Young Scientists Journal Team
Celestine is a talented young scientist who lives in Indonesia, and has significant experience in original research and publication, having recently worked to research affordable methods for non-invasive blood glucose concentration monitoring for diabetics, a project which is now in development. She is passionate about inviting and consequently involving the youth in STEM.
Deputy Chief Editor
Writing and science are two of Nethmi’s greatest passions, and so the Young Scientists Journal brings her great joy which she loves to share with others. Her aim is to spread awareness of this great tool that young people can use of cultivate their love of science and writing, as she has. Based in the South of England.

Sona is a biological natural sciences undergrad at the University of Cambridge with an interest in biochemistry, plant pathology, and science communication. When she’s not freaking out over cool women in STEM, she can usually be found playing the ukulele, talking about bees, or growing her collection of plants (pun intended!)
Head of Production
Federico was born in Italy and is an international student based in Milan. His main interest is computer science and its applications to solve everyday problems. Over the course of the last few years he has won several national and international competitions. In his free time, he enjoys cooking food, playing tennis with friends, and playing the guitar.

Elizabeth is an 18-year-old IB student based in London, England, studying Chemistry, Biology, Geography, English, Maths & Japanese. She is interested in the physical sciences – hoping to work in Astrochemistry & Chemistry research in the future. In her free time, she plays Netball & Rugby and enjoys doing general STEM outreach such as teaching herself to code and travelling.

Michael is 17 and from the west of Ireland. He has an interest in physics, mathematics and chemistry and wants to study engineering as he enjoys working with machines and designing machinery and robots. In his free time, he likes to read, draw and design. He also spends his time volunteering with charities, he loves seeing the impact the work can have on the community and the wider world. He joined the journal to make an impact and help promote his passion for science in Ireland and abroad.
Fabeha is a Year 11 student at Bolton School, in the UK. She is an ambitious & diligent girl who would like to pursue a career in Medicine. She has been committed to volunteering for a long time in many sectors, has experience with working with professionals to influence her ideas, as she was part of a Young Enterprise group, has completed Work Experience in health care & educational sectors, has enjoyed working in a team when completing her Bronze & Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards, has won a public speaking competition, was Form Captain & School Council, has achieved a trophy for a creative writing piece, has had her poem published into a book, & was a Youth MP candidate for her local region recently.

Vybhavi is a rising junior from Georgia who is greatly interested in the field of medicine and pursuing a career as a doctor. She has participated in several STEM events and loves volunteering with different organizations.

Tobe is currently finishing her last year of secondary school. She has a great passion for biology and is very active in ensuring that girls appreciate science and know there is a place for them at the forefront of science. Outside of YSJ, she spends the majority of her time volunteering, conducting research projects in the the lab, or taking photos.
Senior Physics Editor
Arpan Dey, 16, is a high-school student from India who is deeply interested in theoretical physics, mathematics and scientific philosophy. He loves playing with technical ideas and deriving some general and fundamental result from them. He believes physics must hold the key for a better understanding of the fundamental nature of reality. He also loves to involve the youth in STEM, since he believes research is for everyone, and everyone should get the opportunity.
Apart from science, he also enjoys reading, writing short stories (mainly sci-fi and detective) and listening to instrumental music. He is also an aviation enthusiast.
Senior Biochemistry Editor
Hritika is a high school senior at San Gabriel High School, residing in Southern California. She enjoys delving into and experimenting with the intricacies of biology, chemistry, physics, and writing. She carries a great interest in and plans on entering the field of neurobiology in the future. As far as her hobbies are concerned, she carries a knack for art, whether it be photography or sketching. Athletics occupy a decent portion of her time as well, as she enjoys hiking, biking, and a variety of other outdoor activities.

Louise is 16 years old, and a junior in high school. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog and hanging out with her nerdy friends. Based in Westminster, California.

Lucy is a high school student interested in studying chemistry and psychology. She also loves materials science and is excited to ready and edit articles by enthusiastic young scientists from around the world.

Mona is a 17 year old student studying Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry for her A levels. She is especially interested in Physics and Engineering and so is hoping to read Physics at university. In her free time, she loves to play the piano and violin, row and read about new scientific discoveries.

Kathi (Katharina) is a 14 year old student from Germany. She is attending to the ninth form of grammar school. Her favourite subjects are science (environmental science), music and sports. In her free time she likes to dance, to read and to meet her friends.

Grace is currently studying computer science at Princeton University. She is involved in campus sustainability groups and hopes to eventually pursue research in computational sustainability. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, playing the piano and kalimba, and listening to audiobooks.

Mehek is currently a first year student at the University of Pennsylvania. She’s interested in neuroscience, specifically in neurodegenerative disorders. In her spare time, she likes to read or hang out with friends. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Aurrel is a high school sophomore from New York, currently interested in exploring the intersections between STEM and humanities. She is passionate about journalism and world affairs, and hopes to combine these interests with mathematics and related physical sciences. When she isn’t competing in math, science research, or ethical debate competitions, you can find her listening to music, playing instruments, or tutoring and doing other types of outreach community service.

Flynn builds and manages all our systems, and is an enthusiastic programmer and young scientist. In his spare time he likes to run, watch films and listen to music.
Melissa has loved studying Fine Art and Biology at A level, and she enjoys bringing both subjects together to create a compelling article. Her dream is to explore and develop her artistic ideas whilst studying Fine Art at University, but her ultimate future goal is to create an impact on the world we live in, through the means of art.

Clare Sparling is a passionate environmentalist but loves all things science. She is based near Washington D.C., United States and will be heading to Duke University in the fall. Outside of the journal, Clare enjoys cooking, reading, and working with kids.
Lakshita is a motivated IB student and an aspiring computer science student, currently living in Sweden. During the weekdays, she enjoys studying mathematics, physics and economics. However, she spends most of her free time working on new Python projects, reading, chilling with her friends or baking “healthy” desserts. Most importantly, she is always willing to learn new things and meet new people.

Nishka is a biology enthusiast and a student in her last year of high school. She is a skilled communicator who has completed Trinity’s Comm. Skills up to grade 8 with distinction, and is a regular participant in debate camps, MUNs, and competitions going to the international level. She enjoys meeting and working with peers from around the world who share her passion for science, through global projects, discussions and conventions. In her free time, she loves to read, draw, and practice martial arts.

Parsa Nayyara, 16, is a high school student with an avid interest in biochemistry, environmental and biomaterial sciences. She enjoys connecting with other young scientists and encouraging them to get involved through social media. In her free time, you can find her reading, gardening, or casually watching Marvel movies and tv series. Based in Surabaya, Indonesia.
