The LCROSS which stands for Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite is set to hit the moon after a long journey of over 5.6 million miles which will consist of a repetitive orbit around the earth and the moon. This mission is the “partner” mission to the LRO which launched June 18th of this year. The overall objective of this mission is not only to continue LRO’s work, but to also pave a new path to the moon for NASA’s astronauts. The overall return to the moon is the next step to visiting mars. NASA will be providing full coverage online and has provided the public with detailed reports on this mission,( as they do for all their missions). Links provided below.
