The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NICD) have led research into whether the 1% of humans who stutter are actually suffering from a genetic disorder, disproving the common belief that the impediment is linked to anxiety. The three genes that are suspected to be linked to stuttering could lead to breakthrough research into developing drugs and other methods of combating the disorder.
