Progress with HIV

It’s hard to come out with news during this week in particular as the earthquake/tsunami which occurred in the pacific islands will put other news in its shadow. Never less, we will post as much interesting news to hopefully compensate for the tragic news.

A medical breakthrough is quoted to be “the first glimmer of hope”, (The Telegraph), in the HIV field as the medical research is finally paying off. For the past 20 years, there has been virtually no progress in the HIV/AIDS field. However, a recent report from Thailand has shown that the vaccine gave 30% protection against the infection. Due to the statistics, it cannot be legalised as legal vaccinations are required to be 80% or more effective. This is the first step taken towards the preventative aspect of the virus but still has a ways to go. Here are some informative links:
