Applications of General-Purpose Computational Fluid Dynamics to a Plasma Propulsion System

This project looks at the application of general-purpose CFD to two plasma propulsion engines. Verification against experimental data for a 200 kW engine was undertaken, achieving similar thrust levels and jet exhaust divergence angles. A scaled-up 30 MW engine, capable of interplanetary travel, showed similar operating behaviour to the test engine. The increased seventy-fold thrust …

On improving take-off efficiency of airplanes

On improving take-off efficiency of airplanes Arpan Dey Abstract In this paper, a special model for the airplane wing is proposed. The main aim of the model is to maximize take-off efficiency of airplanes and increase the effectiveness of in-flight maneuvers. The sudden movement of a leading-edge downward-movable control surface in the main wing could, …

The Journey Of Physics So Far

Introduction The study of physics has captured the human mind for centuries. Encompassing some of the greatest minds of history, the evolution of physics has followed the human race since the beginnings of civilization. Filled with both complementing and contrasting thought experiments, theories, and revelations, the journey to modern-day physics is an exciting and complicated …

The 4th Dimension

Imagine a 4-dimensional object… Unfortunately, you soon realise that you can’t. But why? Our brains are not hardwired to picture anything beyond 3 dimensions. Life on Earth only goes until the 3rd dimension. The human brain cannot imagine something that it has never been exposed to (such as the 4th dimension). It would be like envisioning …

How can we distribute electricity more efficiently?

Magnesium diboride superconducting cables! A new superconducting prototype cable has been developed to aim to create superconducting transmission lines for improved efficiency and less of an environmental impact for the electricity grid. To meet future energy demands, all the electricity grids throughout Europe will need to be upgraded and expanded for higher transmission capacity. For …
