Science-on-Stage, Debrecen, Hungary 2017 – UK delegation
Science-on-Stage was paradise for a science educator like me! 450 science teachers from across Europe converged on Hungary’s second city, Debrecen, to share ideas about science education. I have returned with hundreds of ideas for myself and colleagues and have learned so much about the way science is taught in different countries. I’ve met many wonderful and inspiring people, from both within our UK delegation and overseas and am exploring the possibility of embarking on a joint project with a colleague from Germany.
The project I was showcasing was Young Scientists Journal (www.ysjournal.com), a STEM journal written, edited and run by students across the world, aged 12 to 20, and well known to many Classroom Physics readers! It was fun chatting to teachers from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Holland, Norway and even Canada at my stand, No.102, in between workshops and stage shows. I’m delighted that we will now be tapping into a larger network of young talented scientists across Europe, thanks to Science-on-Stage, and giving them an opportunity not only to publish their science research, but also to enhance their written English skills.
It is vital, especially in the current climate, that we look beyond our own national boundaries to share ideas and thinking about education.
